ICAR bids adieu to Dr. K.N. Singh

Born on 7th September 1936 in Bihar, Dr. Kedar Nath Singh passed away on 12th September, 2012. He did his M.Sc. (1961) from Bhagalpur University and Ph.D. (1967) from IARI, New Delhi and started his career as Assistant Inspector / Extension Officer (1958-1967) in the Department of Agriculture, Government of Bihar. Thereafter, he joined IARI and served on various positions before moving to the ICAR Headquarters as Assistant Director General (NARP) (1991-1996). He also worked as Consultant in the World Bank (AHRD Project) during 1996-1999.

Dr. Singh was a unique combination of a good teacher and excellent researcher and a versatile extension worker. He served on various National and International Committees with great distinction. His specialized area of research was soil salinity, barley and direct-seeded rice-based cropping systems.Dr. Singh received specialised training on extension (1958-1959); soil and water conservation research, demonstration and extension at Hazaribagh (1959), rice-based farming system in China (1988), and externally-aided farm projects in India at New Delhi (1992).

He was awarded Gold Medal (1958) of Bhagalpur University, Bihar; and Fellow (1988) of the Indian Society of Agronomy. He was also Vice President (1991-94) of Indian Society of Agronomy.
