Ornamental Fish Culture as Livelihoods of Rural Women: an Initiative of ICAR-CIFRI

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore has organized awareness programme on “Ornamental fish culture for livelihood development of Rural Women” in collaboration with Sasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonarpur, West Bengal. The program was organized with the objectives to enhance the livelihood opportunities of the Schedule Caste women's community.

Dr. B. K. Das, Director ICAR- CIFRI, Barrackpore in his address encouraged and advised the beneficiaries to take up ornamental fish culture to generate supplementary income without disrupting their routine household activities.

Dr Narayan Chandra Sahu, Head, Sasya Shyamala KVK, Sonarpur, advised the beneficiaries to adopt the technologies developed by CIFRI for elevating the livelihood of the rural SC community.

A live demonstration of the setting up of the ornamental fish culture unit was carried out by the CIFRI team to the 22 women beneficiaries.
