Residential Certification Course on ‘Integrated Nutrient Management for Fertilizer Dealers’ concludes

2nd - 16th January 2025, Nadia

The 15-day residential certificate program on 'Integrated Nutrient Management for Fertilizer Dealers' concluded at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nadia, today. The initiative, jointly organized by Nadia KVK, FAI-ER Kolkata, and ICAR-ATARI Kolkata, provided valuable training in fertilizer application and soil health.

Dr Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, highlighted the pivotal role of plant nutrients in ensuring crop productivity, likening them to the lifeblood of agriculture. He stressed that fertilizers, when applied wisely, form the foundation of agricultural progress but emphasized that farmers depend on dealers for accurate guidance, which demands a solid technical foundation. Dr Dey stated that the training programme has been carefully crafted to meet government directives while empowering fertilizer dealers to become reliable advisors, fostering sustainable farming practices and effective soil health management, thereby building trust among farmers.

Dr Subodh Kumar Singh, Regional Executive, FAI-ER, Kolkata, accentuated that fertilizer dealership licenses require an agricultural degree, diploma, or completion of a certified 15-day course, as per the Ministry of Agriculture's 2018 notification and FCO guidelines. He emphasized that the FAI initiated this program to equip dealers with the expertise needed to provide accurate, science-based advice to farmers.

About 30 participants from the West Bengal State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd. (BENFED), representing the districts of Nadia, Murshidabad, Burdwan, and Malda, participated in the programme.

Dr Malay Samanta, Incharge Head, and Dr Kaushik Mukhopadhyay, SMS (Soil Science), Nadia KVK coordinated the whole programme.
