Swami Shri Viswamayananda Ji, Secretary, Rama Krishna Mission Ashram, Sargachi, Murshidabad highlighted the importance of Integrated Fish Farming Technology. Shri Viswamayananda Ji was addressing the “75th Foundation Day” celebrations of the ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata held today. He emphasised that innovation and invention should reach each and every door of common people.
Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR appreciated the Institute’s work during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Dr. B.S. Mahapatra, Vice-Chancellor, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal emphasized on the integration of fish culture, especially, nutrient dense small indigenous fishes with agricultural activities.
Dr. D.S. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata appreciated the Ganga Fishery Rejuvenation and conservation activities taken-up by the institute under the NMCG Project.
Dr. Gauranga Kar, Director, ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore, Kolkata lauded the Institute’s developmental activities during the COVID-19 period. He highlighted the issues like declining availability of water and stressed on increasing per unit water productivity and decreasing water footprints of agricultural activities.
Dr. V.V. Sugunan, Consultant, FAO & Former ADG, (Inland Fisheries), ICAR also appreciated the Institute’s work.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, Kolkata outlined the generation of useful Inland Fisheries Technologies on Induced Breeding and Fish Seed Production; Composite Fish Culture; Fish Seed Prospecting and Spawn Collection in rivers; Reservoir and Floodplain Wetland Fisheries Management and In-Situ Fish Seed Production in cage and Pen by the Institute. Dr. Das also emphasized on development of relevant guidelines for sustainable management of Inland Fisheries Management.
The various publications of the Institute were also released during the occasion.
More than 150 fishers participated in the Farmers-Scientists-Interaction Session organized on the occasion.
