To address the issues concerning the groundnut productivity, export and need of groundnut industries and bring all the stakeholders in a common platform, the ICAR-Directorate of Groundnut Research, Junagadh, Gujarat organized an “Industries Interface Meeting” today.
Dr. A.R. Pathak, Former Vice-Chancellor, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh, Gujarat marked his presence as the chairman of the programme.
Dr. V.P. Chovatia, Vice-Chancellor, Junagadh Agricultural University; Junagadh, Gujarat along with Dr. M.S. Basu and Dr. J.B. Misra, Former Directors, ICAR-DGR, Junagadh, Gujarat; Dr. Rajeev Varshney, ICRISAT and Dr. P. Janila, ICRISAT along with other senior officials of ICAR Institutes, State Agricultural Universities and Government Departments also participated in the meeting.
The dignitaries highlighted the importance of developing the high yielding and high oil containing groundnut varieties which are industry-worthy, having high oleic acid and can address the concerns of climate change.
The deliberations on the present scenarios and future prospects of groundnut in changed climatic conditions were made during the meeting. The future need of industries to boost export, importance of promoting cultivation of high oleic groundnut, aflatoxin contamination, improving nutritional and reducing anti-nutritional factors were also discussed.
