A hands-on skill development training on live feed production and management in brackishwater aquaculture was inaugurated today at ICAR – Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture. The specialized training is funded by MSME and aims to offer skill development in various live feed production techniques and management for sustainable brackishwater aquaculture.

During the inaugural function, Dr Kuldeep K. Lal highlighted the importance of live feed, the government’s thrust and initiatives in aquaculture. Further, he emphasized that mastering live feed production and management techniques is essential for aquaculture professionals, hatchery operators, and researchers engaged in seed production.

Dr K. Ambasankar, Course Director, ICAR-CIBA, briefed on the training highlights and thanked all the participants for showing an overwhelming interest in the training and further translating this knowledge and skills to the rapidly growing aquaculture sector.

Thirty-five participants representing all the maritime states and Andaman and Nicobar Islands with diverse professional backgrounds such as Startups, entrepreneurs, researchers, academicians, and aqua input suppliers joined in this training to take live feed production as a business model. This training programme is designed to provide participants with hands-on experience in live feed culture, covering key aspects such as the selection of suitable live feed species, isolation and culture techniques, enrichment strategies, and biosecurity measures.

The curriculum has been carefully structured to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical demonstrations, ensuring a comprehensive know-how experience leading to skill development.
