ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, West Garo Hills, organised a 3-day training-cum-input distribution programme under KSHAMTA on ‘Poultry Farming’ at the ICAR-KVK campus from 20th-22nd March 2024. ICAR implemented Knowledge Systems and Homestead Agriculture Management in Tribal Areas of 125 districts with 25% or more tribal population in 2019 to develop agricultural practices using traditional tribal knowledge.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Serenebell W Momin, District A.H & Veterinary officer, West Garo Hills, emphasised on rearing of improved poultry varieties to get more egg and meat production to cope with protein deficiency. She also delivered one lecture on different schemes and programmes implemented by the State Department for livestock farmers.
Dr. Dr. Cartina K Sangma, A.H. & Veterinary officer, Gambegre C& RD block, graced the occasion as special guest.
KSHAMTA focuses on nutritionally enriching foods and providing scientific interventions in agricultural sectors like livestock and fisheries. In 2020, ICAR-KVK, West Garo Hills adopted Nengjabolchugre village and implemented technologies like poultry farming, duck farming, vegetable production, mushroom production, and vermicomposting to ensure nutritional security and income generation for farmers. In 2024, ICAR-KVK selected 20 beneficiaries from both villages and conducted a 3-day training programme to demonstrate 'poultry farming with improved variety' at farmers' fields.

About 200 Kuroiler chicks, feeds, and medicines were distributed among the participants at Poultry Farm, Rongkhon, West Garo Hills, followed by technical sessions by the Guest speakers.
