Training on Modern Tools for Farmers of Tripura State Inaugurated at ICAR-IARI

An 8-day training programme on ‘Modern Tools and Technologies for Improving Livelihood of NEH Farmers’ under the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute NEH programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI, today in the Division of Agricultural Engineering auditorium.

  

Dr Rao highlighted the importance of water management in the context of climate change. He stressed the adoption of Integrated Farming System (IFS) models, micro-irrigation systems, and integrated nutrient management to ensure sustainable profits. He also emphasized the need to strengthen linkages between farmers and the formation of FPOs for value addition in the northeastern states. Additionally, Dr Rao urged the use of modern tools and techniques to increase the shelf life and market price of agricultural products, boosting income generation. He also proposed providing training to farmers in the NEH region on advanced agricultural machinery and its maintenance and repair at the local level.

Dr P. K. Sahoo, Head, Division of Agricultural Engineering & PI of the NEH programme briefly presented the technologies disseminated in the NEH region since the implementation of the program in 2012.

The trainees will be imparted training on different aspects of modern tools and technologies for enhancing crop productivity and profitability. 

About 20 innovative farmers from the inspirational Dhalai district of Tripura state are participating.
