17th November – 7th December 2022, New Delhi
Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has identified the role of simulation modelling in climate change and agricultural research as a key area for imparting training to agricultural scientists.
A training workshop for ICAR- scientists underthe ICAR-HRM programme 2022-23 was organized on “Advances in Simulation Modelling and Climate Change Research towards Knowledge Based Agriculture” from 17th November to 7th December, 2022 at the Division of Environment Science, ICAR- Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.
The overall objectives of the training were to impart knowledge on
- Advances in climate change research and climate change impacts on agriculture
- Basics of processes involved in crop simulation modelling
- Hands-on training on major simulation models
- Application of simulation models in climate change research for impact assessment, adaptation and mitigation
The inauguration programme was chaired by Dr. C. Viswanathan, Joint Director (Research), ICAR-IARI. The valedictory programme was chaired by Dr Nisha Mendiratta, Head, Climate Change Programme, DST.
Twenty-one scientists attended the training programme.
The training programme imparted knowledge on advances in climate change research and climate change impacts on agriculture, basics of processes involved in crop simulation modelling; provided hands-on training on major crop simulation models (InfoCrop, DSSAT and APSIM) and exposure to others (SWAT, Economic Modelling, Insect Life-Cycle Model) to apply simulation models in climate change research for adaptation and mitigation
