Training Programme on “Role of Women in Diversification and Livelihood Security of SC Farmers” organized

The ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana organized an Awareness-cum-Training Programme on Role of Women in Diversification and Livelihood Security of Scheduled Caste Farmers” under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan Programme today.

In his address, Dr. P.C. Sharma, Director, ICAR-CSSRI, Karnal, Haryana outlined about the plethora of technological packages of the ICAR Institutions available to the farmers in general and women in particular for sustainably managing the marginal land. Dr. Sharma also suggested the women folks to form their Self-Help Groups for realizing the various technological interventions for their livelihood.

The Chief Guest of the valedictory ceremony, Dr. P.K. Ghosh, Director, ICAR-NIBSM, Raipur, Chhattisgarh shared his experience of success achieved through the SC-SP Programme in Chhattisgarh among the tribal farmers. He stressed that the diversification is the most promising component in which animal (dairy, poultry, etc.) and non-animal (processing of horticultural and crop products) components can enhance the women farmers’ income significantly.

A group of 78 farmers (53 women and 21 men farmers) shared their concerns and the needs of farming. The trainees were shown the technological packages and practices on management of salt-affected soils.
