Training programme for SC farmers of ecologically vulnerable Sundarbans Region

4th -7th March 2024, Narendrapur

A 4-day residential training programme on ‘Soil Health Management for Sustainable Agriculture’ and ‘Scientific Fish Farming in Sundarbans’ for the farmers and rural youths under the SCSP programme for coastal areas of Sunderban, South 24 Parganas District, West Bengal by ICAR-Sasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute in collaboration with ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi and ICAR- Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata. The objective of the training programmes was to generate awareness and develop scientific knowledge and skills in soil health management and aquaculture for the vulnerable Sundarbans region.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata emphasized adopting proven technologies for livelihood improvement and poverty alleviation of the ecologically fragile Sundarbans region with the technical support of KVK.

Dr. Saumen Saha, Head, Soil and Land Use Survey of India, Kolkata, emphasised the importance of soil health for sustainable crop and fish farming. 

Dr. N.C. Sahu, Head, ICAR-SSKVK, discussed the role of KVKs in the dissemination of technologies to the farming community.

Mr. Lokman Molla, President, Kultali Milantirtha Society, Basanti Block, Sundarbans was also present in the programme.

Different inputs like vermicompost, vermiwash, pH paper and fish feed were distributed to the trainees by the dignitaries.

A total of 60 SC farmers participated in two training programmes.
