Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and DG, ICAR inaugurates the seed processing and storage unit at ICAR-IGFRI, Jhansi

Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare along with Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), Dr. Panjab Singh, Chancellor, RLBCAU, Jhansi and Dr. A.K. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, RLBCAU, Jhansi visited ICAR-Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi. today and inaugurated the seed processing and storage facility.

The Agriculture minister while appreciating the efforts of the scientist in varietal and technological development emphasized the development and transfer of farmers’ specific technologies. Shri Tomar discussed the deficit of water and fodder in the country and urged adopting suitable measures for its management.

Dr. Himanshu Pathak interacted with the scientists and staff of ICAR-IGFRI, ICAR-CAFRI, and RRSIISWC, & reviewed the activities and achievements of the Institutes. He urged for the desired changes for harnessing the potential of the institute and to improve the work efficiency at the individual level as well as institute and council level. 

Earlier, Dr. Amaresh Chandra, Director, ICAR-IGFRI in his welcome address, briefed that this infrastructure has been developed at ICAR-IGFRI, Jhansi headquarter and its regional research stations at Dharwad and Srinagar with the financial assistance of 3.7 crores from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The facility is expected to boost the potential of the forage seed sector which will help in bridging the gap between fodder seed requirement and supply.

The delegation visited the technology showcasing of the Institute and viewed the activities and technologies.

A meeting of progressive women farmers from the SCSP of the institute was also addressed by the dignitaries and farm implements of 50 lakhs were distributed among the farmers.
