Workshop on Betelvine Cultivation organized

A workshop on Betelvine Cultivation was organized by the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Association of India (MAPAI) in collaboration with ICAR-Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research (ICAR-DMAPR), Anand, Gujarat today.

The Chief Guest, Dr S.K. Malhotra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Maharana Pratap Horticultural University, Karnal, emphasized recent advancements, challenges, and opportunities in betel vine cultivation. He stressed integrating development in Betelvine including marketing and value addition.

The Guest of Honor, Dr B.K. Pandey, Former Assistant Director General (Horticultural Sciences), ICAR, emphasized integrating disease management of betelvine for fetching increased production and higher income by farmers.

Dr K.B. Kathiria, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Anand Agricultural University, Anand who presided over the function, in his presidential address, acknowledged the efforts of ICAR-DMAPR and ICAR-AICRP on MAPB in promoting research and extension activities related to medicinal and aromatic plants and betelvine.

Dr Manish Das, President, MAPAI and Director, ICAR-DMAPR, highlighted the significance of betel vine cultivation and its potential for enhancing farmers’ livelihood.

During the event, a souvenir of the workshop was also released. The workshop provided an excellent platform for researchers, farmers, and industry stakeholders to discuss innovative techniques and sustainable approaches to betelvine cultivation. There were two technical sessions which included 10 deliberations followed by discussions.

The workshop was attended by 100 participants comprising scientists, farmers, Govt. officials, industries, and students from across the country as well as MAPAI members.

Dr A.P. Trivedi, Secretary, MAPAI, and Shri Manish Mittal, Nodal Officer, ICAR-AICRPMAPB coordinated the workshop and technical programmes.
