The Chief Guest, Dr. Rajbir Singh, ADG (AAFCC) emphasized the importance of capacity building in the science of simulation modeling for managing agricultural risks, particularly in current and future times of increasing climatic risks and associated productivity losses. He exhorted the need for system understanding for the overall improvement of agricultural productivity and profitability. Dr. Singh expressed happiness over the participants coming from different states of India and congratulated the Division of Environment Science for Global recognition and National leadership in simulation modeling and climate change impact and adaptation assessments and assessments on GHG emissions from Indian agriculture.

Prof RN Padaria, Joint Director (Extension) spoke about collaborative learning after the training so the advisories to farmers are improved. He gave examples of crop models assisted technology targeting in villages, which were implemented in villages.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof Naresh Kumar Soora, Head, Division of Environment Science, IARI emphasized the need and opportunities to use technology in agricultural management and societal benefits.

Dr Jai Rana, Country Representative, Global Alliance briefed about the UN Environment-GEF project “Mainstreaming Agricultural Biodiversity and Utilization in Agricultural Sector to Ensure Ecosystem Services and Reduce Vulnerability”.

More that. 25 scientists from different states are participating in the workshop.
