Workshop-cum-Training Programme on “Wetland Fisheries Development for fishers of East Champaran, Bihar” organized

The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata organized the Workshop-cum-Training Programme on “Wetland Fisheries Development for fishers of East Champaran, Bihar” at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, East Champaran, Bihar from 22nd to 23rd March, 2021.

Shri Pramod Kumar, Minister of Sugarcane Industries and Law Department, Government of Bihar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Minister also released the Manual “Wetland Fisheries Development in Bihar” during the occasion.

Shri Prakash Asthana, Member, Board of Management, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Bihar applauded the Institute’s efforts towards development and fisheries enhancement in the region. He also urged for extension of the programme in the other Wetlands of the region.

Shri Sanat Kumar Singh, DFO, East Champaran, Bihar appreciated the teamwork by the scientific team of the Institute for creating awareness and imparting the training to the fishers to enhance their livelihood and strengthen the infrastructure.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, Kolkata outlined the working of the Institute for the last four years in 5 Wetlands for doubling the farmers’ income.

Shri Ravindra Sahani, Mukhiya, Piprakothi & President, Piprakothi Fishermen Cooperative Society expressed his gratitude to the Central and State Governments for sanctioning the Projects through NFDB.

Around 500 Wetland Fish Farmers of East Champaran, Bihar attended the Workshop-cum-Training Programme.
