Workshop on scientific cultivation techniques of kharif onion organised

A workshop on ‘  Scientific Cultivation Techniques of Kharif Onion for South 24 Parganas District, West Bengal” was organized by ICAR-Sasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra (SSKVK), Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, West Bengal under the jurisdiction of ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata today. The workshop was conducted under the project 'Assessment of Feasibility of Kharif Onion Cultivation in South 24 Parganas', supported by the Directorate of Horticulture, Government of West Bengal.

 

Swami Shivapurnanandaji Maharaj, Vice-Chairman, SSKVK, RKMVERI, emphasized SSKVK's commitment to farmer-centric initiatives and its success in introducing Kharif onion cultivation in South 24 Parganas.

Dr Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, highlighted the immense market potential and viability of Kharif onion cultivation in South 24 Parganas, stressing its role in enhancing farmers' income and ensuring market resilience. He underscored the need for scientific cultivation practices and climate-resilient varieties to overcome seasonal challenges and maximize yields.

 

The event saw the participation of 30 farmers from Bhangore-II, Baruipur, Budge Budge-I, Budge Budge-II, and Canning-II blocks, aiming to enhance their understanding of scientific onion cultivation. A practical manual was released and distributed to the farmers on this occasion.

The workshop fostered scientific awareness and practical skills, empowering farmers to adopt sustainable onion farming practices in West Bengal.
