A workshop on “Taxonomy of Agriculturally Important Insects” was successfully inaugurated today at the Virology Auditorium, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. The workshop is being organized in the Division of Entomology, ICAR-IARI, under the aegis of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). The National Pusa Collection at the Division of Entomology, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi is one of the oldest and most distinguished insect repositories in the country.

Bringing together the participants from over twenty institutions across nine states, the workshop aims to provide a hands-on, practical overview of the taxonomic identification of insects critical to agriculture. The focus is on equipping researchers and educators with knowledge in biodiversity, conservation, biological invasions, and related disciplines of entomology and insect taxonomy.
The initiative underscores the growing need to strengthen the scientific capacity in the field of taxonomy, a cornerstone for sustainable agricultural practices and ecological research.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. R.N. Padaria, Joint Director (Extension), ICAR-IARI, in the presence of other senior officials.
A workshop manual on Taxonomy of Agriculturally Important insects was released during the inaugural session.
