ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow celebrated World Fisheries Day in collaboration with Department of Fisheries, Uttar Pradesh here today. The institute through its cutting-edge technologies and partnership with different stakeholders is committed towards cataloguing and classification of fish genetic resources for sustainability and posterity, continued assessment and conservation of fish genetic resources for future.
Dr. Sanjay Nishad, Minister of Fisheries, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh inaugurated the event. He urged for significant development of fisheries in Uttar Pradesh through technological interventions and scientific guidance. He also said the Department of Fisheries, Uttar Pradesh is committed towards inclusion of poor farmers and rural women in the fisheries sector by providing benefits of various schemes. Dr. Nishad briefed about the new initiatives and measures taken by the Govt. of Uttar Pradesh for livelihood enhancement and welfare of the fishers and farming communities.
Dr. Rajeesh Dubey, Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh was spoke on the occasion.
Dr. U.K. Sarkar, Director, ICAR-NBFGR briefed about the research activities and achievements of the Institute which are aimed towards benefiting fishers and farming communities.
Shri Prashant Sharma, Director Fisheries, and other officers of State Fisheries Department, Uttar Pradesh were also present.
Over 650 fish farmers/fishers/entrepreneurs from 79 districts of Uttar Pradesh and nearby states participated in the programme.
Technical lectures by scientists of ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow; distribution of fish seed and breeding kit to the farmers, demonstrations and visits to Ganga Aquarium, farm and laboratory facilities of ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow were also organized.
