ICAR –Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-VIII, Pune has organised the ‘Annual Review Workshop of Farmer FIRST Project” at ICAR- ATARI Pune today.
Dr. K.D. Kokate, Former Deputy Director General (Agril. Extension), ICAR, Inaugurated the Workshop as the Chief Guest. He shared insightful perspectives on the genesis of the Farmer FIRST project. Dr. Kokate stressed that funds under the project must be utilized for innovative activities; and income-generating convergence activities like livestock, fisheries and farm ponds must be adopted by linking with government schemes.
The Guest of Honor Dr. R.R. Burman, Assistant Director General (Agril. Extension), ICAR, urged that in each FFP centre, atleast 1000 farm households must be covered. He also urged that 75 percent of resources from the project must be used in new clusters selected under study and 25 percent in old clusters. Dr. Burman insisted that each FFP centre must implement all technology modules and the impact must be documented in selected and nearby villages.
Dr. S.K. Roy, Director, ICAR-ATARI, emphasised the salient achievements of the three FFP centres i.e. Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (MPKV), Rahuri, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari and Junagadh Agricultural University (JAU), Junagadh. He also emphasised the need for more centres under the zone's Farmer FIRST project.
Around 20 participants were present during the workshop from MPKV, Rahuri, NAU, Navsari and JAU, Junagadh FFP centres along with the staff of ICAR-ATARI, Pune.
