Awareness programme on backyard Poultry and Goat farming organised under DAPSC

A One-day awareness programme on backyard poultry and goat farming was jointly organised by ICAR-National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad and Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur, Maharashtra, at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Udgir today under DAPSC.

Dr. Nitin Patil, Vice Chancellor, Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur, inaugurated the programme. He highlighted the scope and opportunities in the backyard poultry and goat sector and its necessity for sustainable rural livelihood.

Dr. S.B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR-NMRI, Hyderabad, emphasised on establishment of meat zones for augmenting quality and safe meat production and further enhancing the export of livestock products. He urged participants to join hands together for the formation of FPOs and get training in the meat value chain.

Dr. S.V. Upadhye, Director and Dean (Vet) and Dr. Bhikane, Director (Extension), narrated on the entrepreneurship in Goat and Poultry sectors and how they can strengthen rural women socially and economically.

Dr. N. Z. Gaikwad, Associate Dean (Veterinary), delivered an introductory speech. An information booklet was published and released on this occasion.

Dr. B. R. Kharatmol, Associate Dean,  Fishery College; Dr. M. R. Patil, Associate Dean, Dairy Technology College were present during the inaugural programme.

Dr. Manik Dhumal, Former Associate Dean and Professor, Dr. M. F. Siddique, Former Professor, delivered lectures.

About 300 scheduled caste beneficiaries from adjoining villages attended the program.
