A two-day Farmers’ training-cum-capacity building programme on 2nd-3rd November 2023 at Amainagar village of Jhargram District, West Bengal under Pilot Project on Crop Diversification has been organised by ICAR- National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, Regional Centre, Kolkata as a Nodal centre of Eastern Region of India.
The main objective of this training programme was to suggest crop diversification plans in rice-fallow lands mainly or the lands where rice crop is marginally suitable and not suitable. These lands will be brought under alternative and profitable crops/ cropping systems while preferences will be given to pulses and oilseed crops.
Scientists from ICAR-NBSS & LUP and Jhargram KVK are conducting a lecture series on crop diversification, introducing new crops like pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, and floriculture. The program uses geospatial technology to test soil health, pests, and disease management, aiming to improve farmers' income and livelihood. Initial support will be provided to farmers as critical input and successful programs may be extended by line departments with research institute technical support.
A Total of Thirty tribal farmers of the village participated in the training programme and 60 percent are women farmers.
Dr. F. H. Rahman, Head, Dr. Tapati Banerjee, Principal Scientist, Dr. Shreyasi Gupta Choudhury, Senior Scientist, ICAR- NBSS&LUP, RC, Kolkata, Dr. Asim Maity, Incharge, KVK, Dr. Srabani Das, Dr. Milan Kundu, Dr. Tanmoy Sengupta, Jhargram KVK and FPC members were present.
