Cotton Krishi Mela and Farmers-Scientists interaction meet organises by KVK Washim

ICAR-Central Institute of Cotton Research, Nagpur, developed high high-density Cotton plantation module and from the Kharif 2023 season assigned KVK Washim to demonstrate the technology on a large scale to enhance cotton productivity.  KVK Washim is implementing a special project on cotton in Karanja Block of Washim where 153 demonstration were conducted on farmers’ fields.  To share the outcomes and impact of the programme Cotton Krishi Mela and Farmers-Scientists interaction meet today at Karanja.

Dr. R L Kale (Head KVK Washim) in his inaugural address narrated the role of KVK in the project and focused on the need for promoting natural farming practices among the farmers. 

Dr. Arjn Tayade, Chief Nodal Officer and Head, Division, Crop Production, ICAR-CICR, Nagpur emphasised the benefits of the ICAR-CICR HDPS module and briefed the role of this project for increasing cotton yield in rainfed and shallow type soil area of Vidarbha Region.  Further, he detailed the research findings and stressed the need for mechanization in Cotton cultivation. Dr. Tayade also stressed on promotion of climate resilience technologies.

Cotton growers, agri-input dealers, representatives of the Agriculture Department and the UMED project attended the function in large numbers.
