Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), visited ICAR- Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrckpore. He inaugurated the 3rd Phase ranching programme under ‘Namami Gange’ at Seoraphuli Ghat.
Dr. Pathak released fifty thousand advanced fingerlings of Indian Major Carps at the river Ganga. He inaugurated the Boat ‘Matsyiki Manthan’ purchased under NMCG Phase-II for the exploratory river research programme. The boat has been developed as a floating laboratory to address various issues of riverine research. Dr. Pathak also inaugurated the Platinum Wing, Block-A at ICAR-CIFRI.
He interacted with various staffs and urged the young scientists to gear up their knowledge and to work hard to achieve excellence in science.
Dr. J. K. Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), was also present during the ranching programme.

River ranching programmes can pave the way for stock enhancement in open water resources and is vital for the restoration, conservation, and upliftment of this declined fish fauna. In the 2nd Phase of NMCG about 63.5 lakhs advanced fingerlings were released in the river Ganga.
