The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata organized a “Stakeholders’ Meeting-cum-Awareness Programme” at Media Beel, North 24 Parganas today.

Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, Kolkata inaugurated the programme by releasing 45,000 Fish Fingerlings of Indian Major Carps, bata (Labeo bata), puti (Puntius sarana) and Tengra (Mystus sp.) to boost the culture-based fisheries production from the wetland and conservation of indigenous fishes. Dr. Das also emphasized on the need to conserve the wetlands.

In his address, Dr. U.K. Sarkar, Head, Reservoir and Wetland Fisheries Division & Principal Investigator, NICRA briefed about the programme and outlined the various climate smart adaptation strategies.

The programme was aimed at creating the awareness on climate change and its deleterious impacts on wetland fisheries under the Project “National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA)”.

The Fisher’s Cooperative was also handed over 3 FRP coracles and 2.5 tonnes ICAR-CIFRI CageGrow feed during the occasion.

The programme registered a total participation by 100 fishers and Project Investigators from the Institute.
