Virtual Kisan Mela organized
The ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi, Jharkhand and Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, Jharkhand jointly organized the “1st Virtual Kisan Mela” on the theme “Entrepreneurship development in Animal Husbandry Sector” today.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Dr. O.N. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, Jharkhand highlighted the immense scope of the livestock sector in Jharkhand.
Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma, Joint Director (Research), ICAR-IIAB, Ranchi, Jharkhand stressed on the immediate requirement for addressing the gap of feed and fodder for livestock along with the market linkages.
Dr. Arunava Pattanayak, Director, ICAR-IIAB, Ranchi, Jharkhand emphasized the livestock and poultry’s contribution in Jharkhand and the opportunities for entrepreneurship development.
Dr. Sushil Prasad, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, BAU, Ranchi, Jharkhand outlined the different schemes of the Government of Jharkhand relevant to the sector. The schemes aim to address the issues of employment generation and livelihood security, especially, in view of the return of migrant labor to home state following COVID outbreak.
The farmers and entrepreneurs were oriented on the various central schemes in dairy and animal husbandry aiming to double the farmers’ income and opportunities for smallholder farmers of Jharkhand for profitable livestock and poultry enterprises by the experts of ICAR-IIAB and BAU.
More than 400 farmers and entrepreneurs virtually participated in the event.
