The ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai, Maharashtra organized its XV Convocation today.
The Chief Guest, Shri Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, hoped that the fisheries sector to be the mainstream field in the coming days and fisheries has that potential which no other sector has. Shri Rupala said that the Government of India has developed programmes to achieve it. He also stressed that the curriculum should have parallel support to the initiative. The efforts of the North-Eastern States who have performed well in the fisheries sector were also applauded by the Union Minister.
Shri Gopala Shetty, Member of Parliament and Dr. Bharati Lavekar, MLA were among the Guests of Honor during the occasion.
Delivering his Convocation Address, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) stressed on the need of the Blue Revolution for enhancing the fish production to meet the future demands. The DG stated that the ICAR is in the process of charting out the New Education Policy for enabling the students to be ready as per the industry requirements.
Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR was also present on the occasion.
Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. Ravishankar C.N., Director & Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai highlighted the salient academic and research achievements of the Institute. The research & thrust areas and the achievements in the Flagship Programmes & new Academic initiatives taken-up by the Institute were also underlined by him.
