DG, ICAR visits ICAR-MGIFRI, Motihari, Bihar

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) urged to take-up some of the researchable issues for the excess water management in the flood-affected areas. Dr. Mohapatra was on his visit to the ICAR-Mahatma Gandhi Integrated Farming Research Institute (ICAR-MGIFRI), Piprakothi, Motihari, Bihar from 6th to 7th November, 2021. The Director General was accompanied by Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management & Agricultural Engineering), ICAR and Dr. Anand Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science), ICAR.

During their visit to the Statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Rashtriya Dharohar Dhwaj, the newly-built main Office-cum-Laboratory Building, Auditorium, Farmers’ Hostel-cum-Guest House, etc., the dignitaries interacted with the Institute’s Scientists and Staff Members.

The DG emphasized on the situation analysis of the flood-affected areas, recession of floods, existing cropping in the farmers’ field and the development of Integrated Farming System (I.F.S.) Models. Dr. Mohapatra also highlighted the importance to fish and goat farming for the waterlogged ecosystems.

Visiting the Institute’s Research Farm, the dignitaries advised the Institute’s Scientists and Staff Members to carry out more in-depth and systematic scientific studies of each component for developing the I.F.S. Models with appropriate economic analysis, validation in the farmers' field and technology development. This will help to make the waterlogged areas productive and profitable.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. K.G. Mandal, Director, ICAR-MGIFRI, Bihar apprised the dignitaries about the progress of the Institute’s infrastructure development, research activities, future plans and programmes.
