A training programme on “Oilseeds for farming systems” was organized (29-30th March, 2016) at ICAR-IIFSR, Modipuram, Meerut under the scheme of FLD on Oilseeds for the activities of cropping/farming systems involving oilseeds other than groundnut.
Dr. Azad Singh Panwar, Director, ICAR-IIFSR in his inaugural address on 29th March 2016 expounded the role of farming systems in increasing oilseed production and thereby increasing edible oil production in the country. He also emphasized that incorporation of soybean in farming systems of western U. P. will not only increase the overall oilseed production, but can also improve financial conditions of farmers alongwith availability of good quality oil cake for livestocks in the region.
Dr. Rambir Katara, Deputy Director, Agriculture, Meerut was the Chief Guest of the valedictory session. The Chief Guest urged that oilseeds should be included in our farming system, either as inter or mixed crop to meet the family requirements of edible oil.
Dr. Galtan Singh, Deputy Director, U.P. State Seed Certification, Meerut and Lt. Col. J. P. Singh, Meerut Cantt were guests of honour during the session.
Twenty six participants participated in the training.
