International Workshop on ‘Surveillance and Diagnosis of Glanders’

8 -17 th February, 2016,  Hisar

International Workshop on ‘Surveillance and Diagnosis of Glanders’ was organized at ICAR-National Research Centre on Equines, Hisar from 8-17 February 2016.

Aim of the workshop was to provide hands on training in the area of serological diagnosis of glanders like complement fixation test and indirect ELISA and to build network among glanders endemic countries for surveillance of glanders.

The workshop was organized in association with Friedrich Loeffler Institute, Federal Research Institute for Animal Health, Institute of Bacterial Infections and Zoonoses, Jena, Germany (Parent laboratory).

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Director, ICAR-CIRB, Hisar inaugurated the workshop and emphasized the need of systemic surveillance of glanders.

Dr. B.N. Tripathi, Director, ICAR-NRCE gave an overview of the major  research activities of the institute.

 Prof Heinrich Neubauer. of Federal Research Institute for Animal Health, Institute of Bacterial Infections and Zoonoses, Jena, Germany presented the global scenario of Glanders.

Brig. S. S. Kashyap, Commandant, Equine Breeding Stud, Hisar highlighted the importance of conducting such workshop in view of zoonotic importance and prevalence of disease in Southern Asia and Middle-East.

A training manual and video documentary on glanders was released during the workshop.

Seven international participants from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iran and eight Indian participants   participated in the workshop.
