Awareness and Training Programme on Protection of Plant Varieties & Farmers Rights

Krishi Vigyan Kendra of ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar  organized an awareness and training programme for farmers on “Protection of Plant Varieties & Farmers Rights” sponsored by PPV&FRA here today.

Dr. A.K. Garg, Joint Director, Extension Education, ICAR-IVRI,  in his inaugural address  informed the farmers about the  benefits of breeder’s rights by getting their  varieties registered to get exclusive rights to produce, sale, market, distribute, import or export the seeds of a protected variety.

Dr. Ravi Prakash, Registrar, PPV&FRA, New Delhi briefed the  farmers about the various rights advocated under ACT-2001 in development, registration, protection and  conservation  of the plant varieties. He also explained the  procedure  to be followed for filing the application for  registration of a plant variety. 

programme was also attended by the faculty of Sardar Vallabh Bhai  Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Modipuram, officials from ATMA, state departments of agriculture and horticulture etc. 

A total of 348 farmers from 45 villages under 15 Community Development Block of Bareilly district registered and participated in the  programme.
