Training Programme for all India service officers on PMKSY at Umiam

A five-day capacity building programme on “Preparation of District Irrigation Plan (DIP) under Prime Minister Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMHSY)”  for All India  Service Officers ((IAS & IFS) of North East India has been organized  at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam from 5-9 October, 2015 with an objective to enhance the technical capability of the Officers to enable them to implement PMKSY in their district effectively so that the slogan Harkhet ko pani may be transferred into reality.

Shri R.B. Sinha, Jt. Secretary (AG) in his inaugural address apprised the trainees about the Government policy and schemes with special emphasis on PMKSY. He urged the trainee officers to manage water resources using traditional knowledge and improved methods of management.

Shri Sanjeev Chopra IS (AG) & Mission Director (PMKSY) in his keynote address informed the needs of training and emphasized that every field must have some access to water and each drop must count for more crop and water productivity needs to be enhanced for ensuring food security and societal development of tribal community of the Region.

Earlier, Dr. S.V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR Research complex for NEH Region, Umiam in his welcome address elaborated upon the vast scope of water harvesting in the region and explored the possibility of multiple use of water for increasing water use efficiency for increasing the production and productivity of the region.

The programme was sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
