Model Village System of Extension through Convergence Mode Initiated

ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya organized a 3 days training programme on “Scientific Piggery and Poultry Rearing to Enhance the Livelihood and Nutritional Security of Tribal Farmers” from 7-9th October, 2015 in Nongthymmai village of Ri-Bhoi district with the convergence of Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) and National Innovation on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA).

Speaking on the valedictory function of the programme held on 9th Oct 2015; the Chief Guest Dr. D. J. Rajkhowa, Principal Investigator (NICRA) and Head, Water Resource Management, ICAR, Umiam appreciated the efforts of scientists to bring the technology to the farmers’ doorstep through convergence of TSP and NICRA and asked for better adoption of the climate resilient technologies to coop-up with present climatic aberrations.   

Dr. A K Mohanty Principal Scientist (Agril. Extension) & Co-Course Director of Training briefed about the model village system of extension through leveraging of activities, investments and resources from externally aided projects like TSP and NICRA to support Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) in agriculture and allied sector and the mechanism followed for developing a village sustainable account for technology sustainability.

Lauding the role of ICAR in the agricultural development of Nongthymmai, the Headman of the Village Nongthymmai Mr. Romelyne Lynshing asked the farmers to follow improved technological practices for livelihood development.

On this occasion three extension folders (one in English and two in Khasi language) were released and inputs like  piglets (Hampshire 87.5 %) and backyard poultry chicks (Vanaraja) along with feed and medicine were distributed among selected farmers.
