30th Group Meeting AICRP on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants & Betelvine Inaugurated

The 30th annual group meeting of All India Co-Ordinated Research Project on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants & Betelvine (23-24th January 2023) organized at Anand Agricultural University, Anand was inaugurated by Dr A.K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticulture sciences), ICAR today.

Dr Singh exhorted that there is a need to explore new business opportunities in medicinal and aromatic plants. He said medicinal and aromatic plants can be good candidates for crop diversification. He emphasised medicinal and aromatic plants play a vital role in ensuring health and livelihood security.

 Dr. K.B. Kathiria, Vice Chancellor, Anand Agricultural University, Anand presided over the function. He presented the research achievements of the AICRP-MAP&B for the past one year and also highlighted the actions taken report for the implementation of the technical programme of the project. He also emphasised the need for the conservation of genetic resources of MAP of the country for posterity.  He urged bringing in more medicinal and aromatic plants under cultivation as cultivation ensures the quality and efficacy of the drug.  The demand for medicinal and aromatic plants is increasing since the post-covid condition, he added.

Dr Satyanshu Kumar, Project Co-Ordinator in AICRP-MAP&B briefed the objectives of the project and presented the prospects of the project. 

During the 2-day deliberations, research achievements of AICRP-MAP&B were reviewed and the technical programme for the year 2022-23 was finalised in different technical sessions.

The sensitization workshop on Agribusiness Incubation and Business Development was also held.   17 publications from various AICRP centres were released during the workshop. Technologies showcasing was organised for the participants.

The workshop was attended by more than 70 participants across India.
