Nematode Awareness Workshop under AICRP on Nematode in Agriculture

A Nematode Awareness Workshop was organized on March 25, 2023, at the Experimental Farm, Hawalbagh, ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora, , under the auspices of the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Nematode in Agriculture. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about nematodes, their symptoms, diagnosis, and management, and to provide practical solutions to farmers and stakeholders.

Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director, ICAR-VPKAS, Almora, highlighted the need for alertness for nematode spread and cited the case of the spread of Potato cyst nematodes in Himachal Pradesh. He urged farmers to collaborate and stay tuned with researchers to promote sustainable and effective nematode surveillance and alertness system

Dr. B M Pandey, Coordinator training cell and Head, of Social Science, ICAR-VPKAS, Almora emphasized the need of nematode monitoring in potato growing areas.

 Dr. N K Hedau, Head Crop Improvement Division spoke about nematode problems under protected cultivation.

Dr. Ashish Kumar Singh, Scientist, Plant Nematology, delivered a lecture on the symptoms, diagnosis, and sampling of nematodes.

Dr. Kavalipurapu Kranti KVVS, Scientist, Plant Nematology, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi delivered a lecture on the management of nematodes under protected cultivation through online mode.

The workshop was attended by 109 men and women farmers, from the Chamoli region of Villages including Niti, Maana, Parsari, Jelum, Kailashpur, region.
