A Virtual Interface Meeting on Enhancing the Preparedness of Agricultural Contingencies in Kharif 2023 for Madhya Pradesh state has been organized by ICAR- Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad, and Department of Farmers Welfare and Agriculture, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh today.

Shri Ashok Burnwal, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Farmers Welfare and Agriculture, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh, clarified the extent of deficit rainfall for the season as a whole in the regions with deficit rainfall forecast, the updation status of district-level agriculture contingency plans for Madhya Pradesh State, and the possible impact of developing Elnino conditions on the monsoon in the State.
Shri Burnwal said the weather data recorded at the Tehsil level in Madhya Pradesh will be shared with ICAR-CRIDA for providing information at a granular scale. He also emphasized promoting moisture conservation practices in place for the ensuing season.
Dr. V. K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA briefed about the purpose of the meeting and expectations.
Dr KV Rao, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CRIDA presented the monsoon forecast given by IMD on April 14, 2023 and SASCOF on 28 April 2023, and sensitized the administrators of Madhya Pradesh state agriculture for contingency preparedness for different scenarios and for the overall season.
The meeting was attended by Shri M. Selvendran, Commissioner, Department of Farmers Welfare and Agriculture, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh; Vice Chancellor, JNKVV; Director, ICAR-DWR; Director of Research, Director of Extension of JNKVV and RVSKVV, Chief Scientists of AICRPDA in M.P., Scientists from ICAR-IISS, ICAR-CIAE, ATARI, KVKs, JDA, DDAs of the State.
