Training-cum-Awareness Programme on PPV&FR Act, 2001

A training-cum-awareness Programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Rights Act, 2001 was organized by ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune in collaboration with the Protection of Plants Varieties & Farmers Rights Authority, New Delhi at National Institute of Post-Harvest Technology (NIPHT) Talegaon Dabhade, Pune on 24th July 2023. The programme was aimed at creating awareness among the farmers about the importance of PPV&FR Act, 2001.

Chief Guest Dr. D. K. Agarwal, Registrar General, PPV&FRA, New Delhi, during his keynote address, highlighted the importance of registration of plant varieties, farmer’s rights and role of PPV& FRA in protection of varieties.

In his presidential remarks, Dr.K.V.Prasad, Director, ICAR, DFR accentuated the importance of honouring the plant breeder’s rights to get the latest varieties from international breeders and remain competitive in the global markets. He explained the ramifications of propagation of protected varieties without proper licenses.

Dr. Vijay Mahajan, Director, ICAR-Directorate of Onion & Garlic Research (DOGR) Pune was Guest of honour and other guest were Dr Sengar, Deputy Registrar, PPV&FRA Regional Centre, Pune
