Training on Oilseeds Production Technology

jodhapurICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Jodhpur organised a two-days training programme for Nodal Officers of Krishi Vigyan Kendras under National Mission on Oilseeds & Oil Palm (NMOOP) during 29-30th July 2016.

Dr.I.Y.L.N. Murthy, Director, ICAR-IIOR, Hyderabad, Chief Guest of the event opined that National Agricultural Research System is the biggest system in domain of Agricultural Research and there is a need to reduce the gap between State Agricultural Universities and  ICAR.

Dr SK Singh, Director, ATARI, Jodhpur in his introductory remarks emphasised the involvement of major research Institutes of ICAR related to oilseeds for collaboration with KVKs for the said cluster demonstration programme. He also stressed that KVKs play an important role to bring the technologies developed by ICAR to farmers’ fields. He focused that 80% of the farming community of India are small and marginal farmers and for the benefit of the farmers such a national level programme is being implemented in cluster mode. He also emphasized the importance of the seed as a critical input in agriculture and appealed KVKs to promote and produce the quality seed in participatory mode with the farmers and need to increase the seed replacement ratio with major emphasis on varietal replacement.

The major objective of training was to enhance the production and productivity of traditional oilseeds. The nodal officers of KVKs will get acquainted with package of practices of major oilseed crops being demonstrated in cluster mode in Rajasthan and Gujarat state. .

About 20 Nodal Officers from KVKs of Rajasthan and Gujarat participated in the traning programme.
