A field day-cum-capacity building programme was organized at Ponnachi village of Male Mahadeshwara Hills (popularly called MM Hills) of Chamarajnagar district of Karnataka to popularize the importance of soil test based fertilizer application for improving crop productivity among tribal farmers today. The programme was jointly organised by four ICAR AICRPs, viz., STCR, LTFE, Soil Arthropod Pests and Potential Crops as well as UAS, Bengaluru.
Dr. T. Sheshadri, Director of Research of UAS, Bengaluru urged the farmers to adopt the scientific cultivation for improvement of their of livelihood.
Dr. Pradip Dey, Project Coordinator (STCR) briefed about the soil health card scheme and targeted yield approach for improving crop productivity and maintaining soil health.
250 Soligas tribal farmers attended the programme from Ponnachi, Chikkamaroor, Ichala kebbe doddi, Sirana hatti, Gundisedu, Asturu, Gotti dibba, Kakkehola, Bangale doddi and Donamaduvina doddi, Konanakere villages of MM Hills.
250 soil health cards along with fertiliser inputs, seeds, fruit saplings and buckets were provided to each farmers.
