ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun, in collaboration with ICAR-Central Institute of Research on Cattles, Meerut organised Kisan Gosthi on Natural Resource Management and Livestock Development at a village Manduwala, district Saharanpur (U.P.) adopted under SCSP programme today.
Dr. S.K. Chaudhary, Deputy Director General (NRM), ICAR inaugurated the gosthi along with Dr. M. Madhu, Director, ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun, and Dr. Umesh Singh, In-Charge Director, ICAR-CIRC, Meerut.
A field visit was conducted by Dr. Chaudhary along with the Directors and Scientists of both institutes and visualized the impact of different interventions like community-based water resource development and management, improved soil and crop management, animal husbandry activities, resource centre, etc. taken up by both the Institutes in order to develop the said village as a model village in foothills of Shwalik region.
Dr. Chaudhary emphasised the importance of soil and water conservation in enhancing the income and improving the livelihood of the farmers. He also appreciated the efforts made by farmers to adopt new technologies developed by ICAR. Various agriculture implements and other animal husbandry aids were distributed among 100 farm families.
Dr. Madhu, accentuated the institute's efforts in developing a community-based irrigation system for the village and helped in diversifying agriculture with higher water use efficiency.
Dr. Singh, accentuated the work of CIRC in the adopted village. He was apprised of the training of farmers in locally processing milk to produce cheese and ghee, which enhanced the income of the farmers.
A total of 150 farmers including more than 50% farm women from said village, participated in this programme.
