ICAR-NINFET organises Northeast Woolen Expo 2024

3rd-9th February 2024, Guwahati

ICAR- National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata in collaboration with the Indian Chamber of Commerce, NER, Guwahati, organised a 7-day North East Woolen Expo sponsored by Central Wool Development Board was inaugurated at Rajgarh Bihutoli Field, Guwahati, Assam.

The Chief Guest, Dr. A. Sahoo, Director, National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner highlighted the Central Govt’s agenda of developing the Handloom and woolen industry in the North-Eastern Region. He also emphasized on value chain of animal fibres, its processing, waste utilization, and application in different fields.

Er. G. S. Bhatti, Executive Director, CWDB, Jodhpur, said that the purpose of the Expo is to bring all the woolen artisans of the North-East region in one place and to boost the woolen handicrafts and handloom sector of this region.

Mr. Ishantor Sobhapandit, Regional Director, NER-ICC, spoke about the aim and objectives of the North East Woolen Expo 2024.

Dr. D. B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata stated that the Expo will be a platform and opportunity for woolen artisans to come together and showcase unique woolen products.

The event was followed by a technical session consisting of four lectures delivered by Scientists from ICAR Institute and the MSME department.

More than 50 stalls from different ICAR Institutes, NGOs, Startups, and artisans were put up during the programme.
