ICAR-CRIJAF celebrates International Women’s Day

ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibers, Barrackpore, celebrated International Women’s Day today, with participation from all women employees of ICAR-Kolkata Hub. The programme was organized by the Women Cell and the Internal Committee of ICAR-CRIJAF. Smt. Pallavi Mandal, Member Secretary, Internal Committee, ICAR-CRIJAF, graced the occasion.

Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, highlighted the importance of Women's Day and the role of women in agriculture. He emphasized the need for equal opportunities for female laborers and the significant contributions of farm women to agricultural production, food security, nutrition, and natural resource management. Dr. Kar also addressed the challenges faced by homemakers and working mothers, emphasizing the resilience required to overcome these challenges. He discussed the concept of Women-Friendly Farm Implements, which reduce drudgery in agriculture and create a more conducive work environment for female workers.

The Women's Day program emphasized the importance of empowering women and the need to invest in them for societal progress. The event was centered around the theme "Invest in Women: Accelerates Progress." Participants shared their perspectives on women's roles in various sectors, including homemaking, agriculture, space, and research. Key speeches focused on women's empowerment, advancement, and their significant contributions in space and research. A presentation on working women's practical realities was also presented, highlighting the untapped sheroes of modern society. The event aimed to promote unity and camaraderie.

The presentation highlighted the challenges and achievements of women in balancing professional and personal responsibilities, providing a nuanced understanding of their contributions. The cultural aspect of the event was enhanced by beautiful recitations, such as "Nari Shakti," "Nari Tum Khas Ho," and "Malati Bala Balika Vidyalaya," which emphasized women's strength, uniqueness, and importance in various life aspects.
