A training programme entitled ‘Short course on Hill Agriculture” was organized by ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora from 11th-15th March 2024 at Experimental Farm, Hawalbagh.
Students from various states participated in lectures on hill agriculture, including integrated pest and disease management, soil testing, farm mechanization, mushroom cultivation, nutritional security, protected cultivation, apiary management, water management, and microbes in agriculture. They also visited Bhagartola village in Almora district to learn about the institute's technologies installed and demonstrated at farmers' fields. Additionally, a visit to a rural business incubator in Hawalbagh and a lecture on agriculture entrepreneurship were also organised.
During the valedictory session, Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director, ICAR-VPKAS, spoke about the institute's journey from Vivekananda Laboratory to ICAR-VPKAS, highlighting the struggle of founder Padma Shri Prof. Boshi Sen.
The training was concluded by the distribution of certificates to the students by the Director of the institute.
A total of 29 students from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi of B.Sc. (Agriculture) III year, participated in the training programme.
