In a significant move to promote advancements in fisheries and aquaculture, the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education licensed two cutting-edge technologies to the Co-operative Fisheries Federation (COFFED), Patna, Bihar. The technologies, aimed at enhancing the sustainability and productivity of the fisheries sector, were officially handed over today.
Dr Ravishankar C.N., Director, ICAR-CIFE, emphasized the importance of such collaborations in driving the future of the Indian fisheries sector and strengthening the research-to-market pathway. This partnership marks a major milestone in ICAR-CIFE’s ongoing efforts to transfer knowledge and technology to the field, fostering innovation, sustainability, and growth in the fisheries and aquaculture industry, he added.
The licensed technologies include:
1. Catfish Hatchery and Rearing of Seed under the Three-Tier System: This innovative method, developed by Dr C.S. Chaturvedi, Dr W.S. Lakra, Dr Arpita Sharma, and Dr A. Landge, provides an advanced, sustainable approach to hatchery management and seed rearing for catfish farming. The technology has already been granted a patent.
2. FishANUre™: A groundbreaking Do-It-Yourself (DIY) technology that enables the development of organic manure from fish waste. The technology, developed by Shri Anurag Singh, Dr Arpita Sharma, Dr Martin Xavier, and Shri Shubham Soni, has been granted a trademark and presents a valuable solution for waste management and sustainable agriculture practices.
The formal signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the licensing of these two technologies was witnessed by Dr Arpita Sharma (Inventor and Co-Inventor, Principal Scientist, and Head of the FEES Division), Dr S.P. Shukla (Officer-in-charge, ITMU), Dr Swadesh Prakash (Principal Scientist, FEES Division), and other key personnel from ICAR-CIFE. The COFFED team was represented by Shri Rishikesh Kashyap, Managing Director, along with Shri Ramdas Sandhe, Shri Chotey Sahni, and other officials.
This technology transfer will pave the way for further advancements and improved livelihoods in the aquaculture and fisheries sectors, benefiting both the scientific community and the local fisheries of Bihar.
