Governor of Catamarca, Argentina visits ICAR-IARI

The delegation from Argentina led by HE Mr Raul Jalil, Governor of Catamarca visited ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute here today.
Dr Ch Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI, spoke about the status of Indian agriculture, its success story in terms of food security and SDGs and future challenges such as climate change, smallholder, etc and the means of overcoming these challenges in research, education, extension, and policy support. He emphasized collaborative new projects and networking between India and Argentina to resolve global issues.
H.E. Mr Raul Jalil` highlighted the achievements of Catamarca in the energy sector, mining, and impact of climate change. He also underlined the need for a MoU between the Institute of Catamarca and ICAR-IARI, for research collaborations. He expressed interest in maize, soybean, millet, cotton, vegetables, and water use efficiency and related aspects.
Dr. Viswanathan C., Joint Director (Research), ICAR-IARI, briefed the delegation on the institute's research areas and crop focus. He proposed a comprehensive MoU between ICAR-IARI and the Institute of Catamarca to foster collaborative research programmes involving scientists and researchers from both countries.
