A 3-day Human Resource Development Programme on ‘Scientific Animal Husbandry and Aqua-cultural Practices to Augment the Income from Small Farming’ was organised by the Directorate of Research, Extension & Farms of West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS), Kolkata in collaboration with ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata for Subject Matter Specialists (SMS), Farm Managers, Lab Technicians from 12 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of West Bengal.
The Chief Guest, Dr Ashok Kumar Patra, Vice-Chancellor, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, applauded the organizers for their efforts in orchestrating this pivotal HRD event for KVK Scientists and underscored the significance of such initiatives in shaping the future of rural development.
Dr T. K. Datta, Vice-Chancellor, WBUAFS, in his inaugural address, highlighted the importance for augmenting farm income through environmentally sound small farming.
In his inaugural address, Dr Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata, underscored the transformative power of capacity building intertwined with sustainable practices, portraying them as twin pillars that not only elevate agricultural productivity but also harmonize our endeavors with the environment. He invited KVK personnel to blend scientific innovations with traditional wisdom to cultivate a resilient and prosperous future for small holder farmers.
During the valedictory session, Dr Tapas Kumar Ghoshal, Head, ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Regional Centre, Kolkata, engaged in an in-depth discussion with KVK personnel on the current state of fisheries and aquaculture, highlighting entrepreneurial opportunities for marginal farmers.
Dr Keshab Chandra Dhara, Deputy Director (Farms), WBUAFS coordinated the programme.
A total of 47 participants of KVKs from Zone-V, actively participated in the interactive session. Experts offered practical advice on boosting the income of smallholders from animal husbandry and aquaculture.
