ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Old Goa, organized an engaging interaction meeting with Dr Lisa Tiemann, Associate Professor at the Department of Plant, Soil, and Microbial Sciences, Michigan State University (MSU), USA, today.
The meeting included presentations on ICAR-CCARI’s accomplishments in natural resource management and soil research, complemented by Dr. Tiemann's insights into soil biology and its contribution to sustainability, particularly in the nitrogen cycle. The discussions explored potential areas for collaborative research, such as microbial applications in natural farming, enhancing phosphorus use efficiency, green manuring, biochar amendments, and innovative strategies for improving soil health.
Dr Tiemann toured several research and innovation units at ICAR-CCARI, including the Livestock Waste Valorization System (LWVS), Jalopchar Unit, and Vermicomposting Unit, which showcased the institute's efforts in sustainable agriculture. A field visit to the Khazan lands, part of a NABARD-funded project, offered valuable insights into enhancing soil health through microbial enrichment and green manuring, highlighting the potential of the site to influence policy action for the restoration of these unique ecosystems.
