Field Day on Multiple Disease-Resistant Tomato Cultivation

30th January 2025, Hailakandi

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hailakandi organized a field day on the cultivation of multiple disease-resistant tomatoes at Kunkun Basti, Lala Development Block, Hailakandi district, to promote the Arka Abhed tomato cultivar.

The field day was part of a Front Line Demonstration (FLD) program aimed at showcasing proven agricultural technologies. The key objective was to introduce effective crop production and protection methods, including integrated disease management, to farmers in different agro-climatic regions.

Blight diseases, particularly early and late blight, are major challenges for tomato farmers in the region, affecting yields. In response, ICAR-KVK Hailakandi demonstrated the Arka Abhed variety, which is resistant to bacterial wilt, leaf curl virus, and both early and late blight.

Farmer Santosh Koiri, participated in the demonstration, shared his positive experience, noting that his crop has shown no signs of blight, unlike those of other farmers using different varieties.

A total of 38 farmers and farm women participated in the programme.
