The first ICAR-Sponsored Winter School on ‘Optimizing Natural Resources through New Age Technologies for Smart Agriculture’ concluded on a high note with the valedictory programme organised today at ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Assam. The event marked the successful completion of the three-week-long training programme, which aimed to equip participants with advanced knowledge and skills to address agricultural challenges through cutting-edge technologies.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Narendranath S, Director, North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) underscored the importance of such training programmes in uplifting the condition of farmers in the North-East region. He emphasized the role of advanced technologies in addressing region-specific challenges and climate variability.
Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI, chaired the valedictory session, and highlighted the significance of the Winter School in promoting soil conservation and sustainable agricultural practices in the high-rainfall region of North East India. He discussed the challenges of soil erosion and riverbed degradation and stressed the need for scientific interventions to conserve soil health. Dr Rao lauded the efforts of the organizers, resource persons, and participants for making the Winter School a grand success.
Dr S. Manivannan, Course Director provided a comprehensive report of the Winter School. He highlighted the key activities including lectures, hands-on training, and field visits which were organized during the programme.
A total of 17 participants across different states of India participated in the training programme.
