ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, organized a Field Day on Bamboo Cultivation today at the Bambusetum, at the Institute campus. The event aimed to create greater awareness among farmers, agricultural enthusiasts, and other stakeholders about the potential and practices of bamboo cultivation in the region.
The Bambusetum at ICAR–CCARI is home to 60 distinct germplasm of bamboo, meticulously collected from Maharashtra, Kerala, and Karnataka.

During the event, participants explored the wide diversity of bamboo species suited for construction, ornamental landscaping, and other agro-industrial uses.
The scientists shared insights on various aspects of bamboo cultivation, including suitable species, plantation establishment, sustainable harvesting techniques, and post-harvest utilization, highlighting bamboo’s role as a versatile and eco-friendly resource.
A total of 75 farmers and other bamboo enthusiasts, participated and expressed keen interest in adopting bamboo-based practices for improved livelihood and environmental sustainability.
