A one-day workshop on “Importance of vegetables and modern cultivation techniques” was organized by ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi on 30th June 2017atAnganwadi campus of the Kakrahya village, Varanasi. Kakrahiya is newly addpoted village of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.
Vegetable kitchen garden packets were distributed to 150 farm families of the village. The kitchen garden packets contained improved varieties of bottle gourd (Kashi Ganga), sponge gourd (Kashi Divya), pumpkin (Kashi Harit), cowpea (Kashi Kanchan) and okra (Kashi Kranti) which will be shown in the coming rainy season.
The scientist of ICAR-IIVR sensitized the villagers that consumption of vegetables can fetch nutritional security and make people healthy. Every village household should have vegetable kitchen garden for consumption of fresh vegetables throughout the year.
As per earlier surveys, every farm family can earn Rs. 1500 to 2000 per cropping season from the kitchen garden after fulfilling family consumption requirement.
ICAR-IIVR will thrive to develop Kakrahya as model vegetable producing village.
